About Me

Hi! I’m Liz

I use she/her pronouns, and I’m the labor doula at Embracing Birth. Originally from small town Eastern Iowa, I have settled down in Des Moines with my partner and our children. Prior to starting Embracing Birth, I worked in fundraising and communications for nonprofit organizations.

In my free time, I can usually be found playing with my kids, baking, reading (sometimes too much) about politics, binging period dramas on Netflix, and spending time outside.

Education & Training

  • BA from University of Iowa (2012)

  • CAPPA Certified Labor Doula (2022)

  • “Breastfeeding for Doulas” with Angela E. Sweiter, RN, BSN, IBCLC, ICBD, ICCE (2021)

  • Adult, Child, and Infant CPR & AED Certified through the American Heart Association (2021)

  • Certified Size-Inclusive Birth Professional with Michelle Mayefske of Fat & Pregnant (2023)

I started Embracing Birth after having my oldest daughter. While in the delivery room, surrounded by my birth team, I had a moment of realization - everyone deserves to feel as supported and loved as I did in that moment. Regardless of gender, race, or financial ability. Every birthing person deserves the support and encouragement of a doula. This is the heart of my business.

As your Labor Doula, we will work together as a team to make you feel empowered, prepared, and loved throughout your pregnancy and birth. Whether it is medicated or unmedicated, at the hospital or at home, vaginal or by cesarean - I am committed to helping you feel good about yourself and your decisions as you enter a new phase of life and welcome a little one into your world.
